The day started with a family drive out to the ride site while listening to my radio interview aired on 570 news. Different versions of the interview played throughout the day.
We arrived at the meeting house to hook up with the other riders, sponsors and celebrities; to socialize and spend time with our families.
Lance arrived shortly after 11am due to a foggy flight into town. We set out just before noon led by an entourage of police motorcycles and followed by a very impressive team of vehicles. The ride was 120km in total with two short stops both in Paris and in New Dundee. I did great!! I had never cycled more than 100km so after pushing myself to the front of the pack to ride side by side with Lance and Steve…well, my legs decided they had had enough! But not before getting an awesome photo at the front of the peloton (see below). I finished strong and enjoyed every minute of it, (despite some pain).
The day concluded with a fabulous dinner for the riders. Each rider I met was an inspiration and had their own unique story to share. Thank you for enabling me to participate in this once in a lifetime experience....until next year!
Cheers,
Brent Ferguson
